Hello from Melbourne!
Hi all,
Just saying hello from Melbourne.
My GTV6 has a 3.0lt 24v that has given faultless service for the past 15 years. It is a road registered car but built for the track. The engine was getting a bit tired now and due for a rebuild. Then my mechanic found a brand spanking new-in-the-crate 3.2lt 24v which we bought and in the process of converting to fit the car.
Most of the add-on bits should transpose onto from the old engine to the new engine (plenum, extractors, Autronic ECU, etc) but just finding a way to convert the 3.2 sump to fit into the GTV6.
Below is a pic of the car at the great Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit
Cheers
Victor

Thanks! Just waiting for my mechanic (owns the GTV6 GroupA) to finish his stinct with the that car in the Top Gear show in Melbourne this weekend, then the annual Historic Phillip Island Classic the following weekend, then figuring out how to sort out the sump in a 3.2 to make it fit into the engine bay.....the oil pump configuration is different between a 3.0lt 24v and a 3.2lt 24v. (the 3.0 is chain driven and the 3.2 is gear driven or vice versa? ... basically they're different!!). At least the engine has moved from the crate to the engine stand!

Re: Hello from Melbourne!
You can laser cut 20mm spacer between b;ock and sump and then cut out some webing in sump on standard sump. I did send ben some pics of spacer but cant download here unfortunately. I need to get my laptop sorted out.
Great looking car. How has your gearbox been, any failures on crown and pinion ?

Re: Hello from Melbourne!
Kevin, how are you getting away with a 20 mm spacer between sump and engine? won't it hit the steering rack?
I've seen some guy use the original (156 GTA) sump in his Alfetta, he just cut out a big chunk and welded a plate in to clear the steeringrack. Not the best looking idea but it worked.

Re: Hello from Melbourne!
two ways of doing it - spacer between block and sump and move the steering rack, or spacer between main part of sump and bottom plate.
Here's the pic Kev sent me of the spacer plate:

Hi Kevin,
Will follow up on the 20mm spacer option. This looks good!
No, I've had no issues with the crown and pinion and I've got the 4.3 diff, 50% LSD and standard gear ratios. But I am seriously thinking of going back to a standard 4.1 diff ... too many gear changes on some of the tracks we go to!

Re: Hello from Melbourne!
I forgot about the lower part of the sump... that doesn't require much more space at the steering rack.
Just be extra careful at speedhumps and stuff.
