Alfa Trofeo Racing Series - South Africa (Pics from meets)

Post by kevin »

Every race meet I will just snap a few pics of the cars and their competitors. Starngely we mix in with the Cobras which makes it pretty interesting as these Cobras are running 600 plus hp. The red GTV 3.0 (3.7 24v) as only 1 sec of its its pace.
pics to follow, of the chaps, their garages at the track etc

Those are home made headers , which using a 45 mm pipe trying to squash it for a smaller circumference oval port. This was a very early RnD motor which is still going strong after 5 hrs. This motor has 30 kw more than my 3.7 ( mine has 192 kw on wheels - while my standard road 156 gta has 138kw for perspective - all done same dyne same day)

If only I took vids of this car on the track. You cant believe the sound that it makes from these short exhausts . Power is off the charts
This is also a well presented car not just huge power.

I did a few laps in my newly built track day/weekend car which I have not posted anywhere parked next to two race GTV3.0L . Mine is the one with out the sticker and road tyres(which I forgot when entering turn 4 ) :o
Its got a full coil over set up, standard GTV discs , Ap calipers and a 3.0 24v motor that pumps out 18kw more than a standard GTA 3.2 with torque (probably due to gearbox ratio) :P

Pick of the two race GTV 3.0 . white one is12v carbi 3.? and the other is 3.7 24v.
The white gtv is in exactly the same stickers it raced in by the late Abel D'oliviera in 1984

On this link are pics from our club track day.
Compare the body roll off the two 116 gtv s entering corner with similar speed. Red one has coil over while charcoal 2.5 has standard set up

That 2.0 gtv is extremely fast . The owner actually blends his own fuels . Can't give you engine specs but it was the fastest historic race car here until it was banned so it joined the alfa only series. It's the third fastest alfa on the track here in SA including all the big bore cars. So light as well which is key to it's performance , but I mean really light.

very interesting, would have thought that although heavier the hight power v6s would still have the edge, thanks for sharing,
a new direction (engine swap) with my track car will hopefully be the best of both worlds, light weight (4cyl upfront) but with big power 8)

Fed :Here are pics of three Giuliettas that raced this weekend. Every person has there own theory on how to set up a car but these two giuliettas(All red and all white one ) dont run anti roll bars. The white giuli has full coil over and the red one has ex auto delta 33mm torsion bars and twin brake hubs. The pace of these two cars at Kyalami track is the same as ex BMW touring cars . Yes they are much lighter but holy crap do they handle. Both drivers are also out of the top draw. Probably the best SA has to offer especially Rory on the white Giuli. No matter what car he gets into he is 5 seconds faster than the average top club racer. Who in their right mind does not back off down the Mineshaft sweep at Kyalami . I lost it there with only 3/4 throttle two years ago and i only think about it every ten minutes now
One thing both these cars have in common is they are barely off the tarmac
