In addition to the 1.8Tb for 77 euro's i picked up a 164 3.0 24v engine for 50 quid yesterday...
I bought it off someone who had it laying around for years. He bought it as a damaged engine to use as a trial-fitting engine to make it fit/work in his 75. He never had the time to actually put any use to it so decided to sell the car and all the parts. The buyer for the car had no use for the engine so that was offered to me for scrapmetal price.
Yesterday i got a call that i could come get it. I took the engine home with me and started looking what the damage was. the oil that came out was all mayonaise-like, brownish thick slime. So there is a coolant-oil conflict at least..
After pulling the oilpan i found a few large bits of aluminium laying in there. That seems to be the underside of piston nr 1 on the left bank
. I pulled the leftside head and found the valves are allright on first side. No imprints on the pistons or any visual damage to the valves. So at least i have some good spare parts for my own 24v engine now.
Closer looking at piston nr 1 showed that the piston could be tipped over in the bore by half a centimeter
. The complete pistonskirt must be missing. I drilled a small hole in the piston and put a screw in it to try to pull it out but it was still connected to the rod. that's probably why the head is still intact.
Then i saw the reason for the oil-coolant mix... a big crack going from the top off the liner right to the end.
Never seen or heard of this kind of damage before.
But still a nice buy for the 50 bucks...
The Tb engine will probably end up getting bastardized with an 1.8IE engine to create a "new type" engine with 60-2 sensor and intake stuff. There are some big red Bosch injectors lying around here and the turbo off an Evo 7 has also been put aside.
IC up front offcourse and some MS2 to control fuel and timing..
Drive it like you stole it...
