Re: Project 2 : front mount SA GTV 3.0 - Sei diff

Post by kevin »

Not sure if I'm gonna make it to complete car as I leave SA on Tuesday next week . Anyway today was completing gearbox mounts , heating and pressing in rear Dedion to allow calipers to clear . My brake system seems to be a sprinkler system at the moment as the copper washers on banjos are seeping . Have not had this before . Gear lever and linkage is now custom as tunnel is 25mm different to similliair position in the M3 . Pictures will show better new gear lever system .
I have doubts if my prop is gonna be vibration free with that universal but we will see . Better option would have been to use M3 CV with sliding join .

EDIT I have come back here from end of project to note my suspicions on this prop were correct in it did not work . Wrong type of universal and angle greater than 3 degrees . Also slider should have been on engine side . Read later on the fixes .

That weber braai ( barbie) has been in good use - must have consumed 2kg of rump steak in two days :D SA style . Got all wiring complete and gotech/Powermods all wired in with help from Paul ( owner Marlboro giulietta ) . So bottom line is I did not make it in time to get police clearance on car and final testing in order to load into container on Tuesday . So I will leave car in "storage" for few months and come back for a week to finalize , test and load . Great pity . Anyway will post some up to date pics tomorrow .

Joemart , no problem but I will probably be loading it into container straight afterwards if its still one recognisable piece . I bought this for the car as it will save lots of time trying to get my whole dash display and speedo calibration working and they say its MOT approved .( well see about that)
Maybe in July will be back for two weeks to do one race . It's great not having to pay 100% import duty .

Bit of distraction on 3.7 but got junior suspension stripped out to go to Fernando . Hope to get some more pics of the 3.7 nearing completion . Only took it out of storage after six months .

Started working on interior , fitting kill switches and start button . I can still reach the kill switch easily . Unfortunately I left my wiring manual in the Uk so struggling to figure which relays activate the brown wire once you power up .
Petrol tank is now in which has its own built in swirl pot . Tank has three chambers with a fall to the swirl pot . Still to put foam in tank . Yes I know its high ( high cg) but I still wanted to carry spare wheel and leave battery in back as I still want to drive to race tracks .

All was going well but picked up issue with clutch fork which is touching pressure plate . Aaarrggghhhh. So out comes engine and box again tomorrow and will make an adjustable pivot . I should have asked all the guys who have done this previously so could have saved myself some time . I will post pics of that mod so If there is another nutcase out there doing this conversion they can do it once . :(

The caps screws above on clutch are touching edge on clutch fork so I will make a longer pivot point on the left which will reduce angle . Will tap into housing and put adjustable bolt with locknut .
Thanks to Jose and paulo ( powemods ) for coming past to assist - hey and also the braai . Can't work on Alfas without consuming huge amounts of meat ( especially in SA)
