Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
Maurizio I see you are also now off the JK Christmas greeting card shopping list.
Can't take the piss out of Kevin 'cause he's got a bad back so that wouldn't be fair. Naturally JK is next in line..
Hey Greaser, don't cave in on me now, you are on the crest of that orgasmic stroke of achievement and SquadraGTV6.com is in there bating for ya !
Having said that, I am worried about your bottom end.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
No harm intended, just a natural urge to push myself and others to the max
So when I hear a complaint, I try to provide an out of the box possible solution direction.
Just using common sense and not hindered by any constants

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
Actually, cheapest/quickest way to high power is NOS. If your engine is strong enough (as in tough) you can't beat the hp/$ of NOS. No turbos, Schargers, just a good reputable NOS system. With proper failsafe provisions in place, the engine can have a long happy life.

Would be great JK but our racing rules will not allow it. Don't know about street applications but it wouldn't take much for the Fuzz to work out that you have nuclear power equivalents under the bonnet seeing you are drifting everywhere including reversing out of the supermarket carparks.
I like the way you're thinking though..er, what about pressurising the roll cage volumes..

The rollcage thing was done ages ago in NASCAR... incredible ingenuity!
Took my 1.8T to the dyno yesterday and saw 251whp and 409Nm at 1.7bar (24psi). It leans out though after ~5800rpm and I have to check a few things -fuel filter, pump, power lines. I've set the limiter at 6200rpm, as this snail (GT2871) runs out of map at this boost. I dynoed because I'm thinking to switch to the GTX2860 which I finally got. However, I think stock management (+msd prog.ignition) will have a tough time catering for 30+psi. Will investigate (slowly as funds allow).

I know you're an old fart Jim, but you can shift later than 2500rpm...

2500 rpm? You're really pushing it Mats. He's dreaming of shifting at 2000 rpm.
BTW hope you're ok JK, with all the flooding. Does your 75 have pontoons?

Why don't you all go for a nice swim in a lead suit with MD as a tour guide? We promise to hold a memorial service once in a blue moon!

Next summer??? Better take it one week at a time... Safer this way, not knowing what lies ahead in this country. The fact that some of us can still have a hobby is a remarkable feat!

Funny that you should use the word "lies" for Greaseland
Come summer, a few beach parties with a few hot blondes will make all your troubles go away (until your wife finds out).
A question related to 4-cyl turbos. How does a knock sensor work in the nord? Isn't the engine sort of noisy. Is there specific noise filtering for the nord in the ecu?
BTW I need to contact you about your mechanic's CB cams, or perhaps another set of regrinds. My dad found a GTA engine for his project 156 V6.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
The std 1.8T engine does not measure boost. It relies on the knock sensor signal to open the wastegate in conjunction with load/rpm info -which I find very strange, since when it was put in the market there were other very capable turbo cars around like the Sierra Cosworth to copy! In fact, many 1.8T modifiers graft the Sierra management to their cars and map it suitably. In my car, I have disabled the ignition ecu and replaced it with msd programmable which uses a map sensor. I use a Knocklink to detect pinging and map advance.
The C&B cams are gone.

Re: 4-cylinder turbo performance
As for the ancient ECU in 1.8t i found in some old italian car magazine that alfa needed to avoid some luxury car tax in italy and they made turbo purposely inferior not to go over m3 price range. brand new it was ~34k deutsche marks in germany.
What kind of tax i'm not sure, something about technically advanced vehicles paying premium taxes... Lancia delta setup is also far superior to 1.8t so i don't know how that story holds water but that's what i heard...
