So I guess you plan to fit a huge oilcooler to the gearbox now that you are heating it with ~25kW?

So Mats, what do you think is the usual loss in the driveline? From what I have read it's anywhere between 10-18%.

junglejustice wrote:Hamish, while I appreciate your attempts to be fair here and your sincere efforts at dolling out equal scorn in order to help end this, I must say - I resent the notion that I was throwing around arbitrary numbers! As if to say that I am lying or that my numbers are doubtful!?

Mats' tirades aside; the 301.5 number ATW is real. 5 People watched it – 6-7 pulls in a row! Dyno sheet was produced. Period. The 260 foot-pound number is real. It's on the dyno sheet - Jes will post it here. Period. The 2423 pound number is real (unless you want to tell me that Group 2's corner scales are shit...)

The only stab at the unknown that I took was clearly prefaced by the word "if" (for those of you who claim English as their first language - please read my 1st post to this thread.) It clearly says: "....IF... you believe a 20% parasitic driveline loss THEN the 301.5 and the 260 numbers bla-bla-bla...TRANSLATE to xyz..."

How is that "...throwing around numbers..."? If that is "throwing numbers around" then so be it! It is then open for Mats or anybody else to come along and say that based on some other testes of stock production cars they found the following….

I mean how much more clear/tentative/careful/reserved/honest/open minded can or need a person be on this forum here to not receive scorn and all hell of insults to one's efforts from King Mats Big Dick Swede....!!!!????

I said IF you believe a 20% driveline loss! That was not even the point of the post! Mats clearly missed it...

I’ve said it before: It isn’t fun for someone to come on here, ask questions or make posts about their projects – only to be insulted and criticized by a handful of people who dominate the thread! I dare anyone to produce ONE (1) post where Mats had anything good to say about any of my efforts!

It all stems from an old news/water under the bridge tiff with another member here THAT WAS LONG SINCE RESOLVED, but Mats just does not seem to want to let go…

Look how far OT we got from my post about the car's weight just because you have a pouncing spider lurking in the corner waiting for me to make a statement that can be torn to shreds! This hobby and the notion of "sharing information" really are becoming more work and aggravation than what it should be.
And JJ, if you understood english, you'd read "throwing around a lot of numbers" in my post. I never said they were arbitrary. I said you were throwing a lot of numbers around.

In the above post alone, there are 12 numbers alone that you've just "thrown" around..

Jokes aside - some tranny cooling is at the order of the day! I have seen it on several other TA cars - seems simple enough... Those things were expensive, so, worth it...

I think it's not as simple as a pecentage of the power, there is a thread here on the forum somewhere were it's discussed.

percentage?

Post by Zamani »

Mats,

It is not as simple as a percentage I agree. But heck none of us have time to dwell on it for ages.

However Jim Greek, being the exception, I heard is getting engaged to the Superflow machine as he arranges pre-nuptials.

I remember we had a discussion with Ben Bishop a while ago and we agreed that it wasn't linear hence taking a percentage was inaccurate.

But for simplicity's sake, even the best tuners (ones with both engine AND chassis dyno) out there use a percentage. I got some documents from Jim Greek and the document did mention a .... percentage.... although lower than most others.

Everything is gone, except for essentials. So, window power motors, power door looks, associated switches, associated wiring, carpet, sound insulation material, rear seat+cushion, rear shelf, stereo, ventilation system (hey, this is So Cal :D), headliner. Basically, you name it - it's out. It is useless for the street!

What can be done to further reduce weight: polycarbonate side and rear windows, race seat, light weight body panels, ... aluminum front suspension piecs, but that is getting exotic (=expensive).

We can put Mats in the driver's seat - the air alone will lighten the car by 200 pounds...!

Jess,

Are you going to get a tow vehicle and trailer for the 3.7?

I'm thinking of a minivan. Mazda MPV can tow 3000 lbs. Honda Odyssey/Pilot can do 3500 lbs. I will most likely get a dolly and not a trailer. Or just disconnect the 1/2 shafts and flat tow the car.

I think for with the car weighing about 2400 lbs and the trailer another 1000 lbs (at least) all the choices above are pretty marginal. Sounds like you need a big 'murrican V8 which will get you 17 mpg (when not towing  )

Yeah. I previously swore I would never own anything bigger than our practical Saab wagon, but the track car has forced me to bite the dust... think big Japanese V8.
