Speedometer PCB/Wiring

Post by powderhoundcd »

Hey guys,
I just recently got an '83 Alfa GTV6 and am trying to sort out some little gremlins with the dash lighting.

The guage lights all work, except for the tach and speedo. Could someone post a picture of the circuitboard on the back of the speedometer and a picture of the connector that conencts to the speedometer? Thanks for the help!

Carson

PS - I'll post pictures of the car next time its sunny here.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the speedometer? I'm getting a cardisc manual for Christmas, but am stuck without anything until then. Thanks for the help!

If you mean the Instrument itself, forget it. Marelli who own the circuits are tighter with the info than a fishe's arse- and that's water tight.

I've attached a picture of my speedometer.

As far as I can tell, the wiring is:

1: Turn Signal (+)
2: Ground
3: Dash Light (+)
4: Dash Light (+)
5: Speedometer Signal (+)
6: Speedometer Power (+)

Is this correct? The problem I'm having is that when I turn the dash lights on, wires 3 and 4 have no power to them. They should if this wiring diagram is correct.

The wire that goes to 3 (or 4, it shouldn't matter) is connected to the dash light power from the clock (I tested with a multimeter for conductivity), but the power isn't getting sent to the speedometer. Any ideas for why this would happen? Thanks a ton!

Carson

P.S. The missing bulb is there, it was just out for the photo.

Looks like you have the new style speedo. Has this been changed in your Alfa from the older style? Not sure if the six space five connector and six space six connector types are interchangeable.

Also, I noticed on mine that the speedo wiring from the rear is also different (1985..compared to older models...not just the lighting)
