Jim,

I think you got it wrong. The Scottish are throwing the telepone poles not us. We do have a shampionship in rubber boot throwing though. Nokian boot, size 48 I recall.

Actually I don't consider myself very strong. What I do is leave the exhaust manifold on until I hulked the head off. Never had any problems with this (unlike several other Alfa related thing which really made me sweat).

Ever heard you can remove a head by backing the nuts ~2 turns and then cranking the enging as if trying to start? Sometimes the compression will pry the head off, never had to try it myself though.
Whose boots are you guys throwing and who do you throw them at???!!

Yep Rob.
You're totally right. At that point you seriously wish for a "light one".

Two additional interesting ones are Sauna shampionship and for football freaks "swamp football".

Mosquito killing race involves sitting in the woods (probably smelling as good as possible to the mosquitos) and killing as many as possible when they stry to suck you dry.

Hmmm, this is interesting Micke, does everyone have to carry their own wife away or somebody else's good looking one?? Do they have to bring them back in the morning??

Rememberred this tread as we pulled the head of my Bro in laws 75Turbo yesterday.
I'm no guru (opened less than 20 alfa engines I guess), but again I just grabbed the head and rocked it a bit. Getting it off didn't even bring a sweat (hmm... about -5 degrees and working outside might have something to do with this part).
