Seb & TRR´s 75 3.0 track car.

Post by Seb »

Hello guys!

Since I´ve noticed You guys like project threads, I´ll give You another one.

Togeather with two ohter Alfa freaks I own a track car. We´ve only been working on it since last spring, so its still under construction. Our motto is "a fun fast budget racer". We drove it all through the summer track season and it handles great.

Too mutch has been done this past year too give you all the pics, but I´ll sum what has been up till now, and will pick it up from there.

The car is a Alfa 75 2.5 from `87 with a 3.0 engine from `90.
*Lowered with 30mm torison rods and race springs in the back.
*Bilstein sport shocks.
*Gearbox from 75 TS
*Totally ripped out interior
*Battery moved back
*ACC and orig. PS ripped out to loose weight
(PS was leaking, so I rebuilt it to manual stearing. Lost 15kg)

Ok, news then...

The plans for the winter is to lighten it more (as much as possible after low budget messures :) ) Also to put a full cage in it, get another race seat, service the gear box and engine and other small stuff.

Skirts and an EVO front is ordered aswell.

At the moment we´re cutting metal out that we don´t need. Members inside hood and trunk and stripping the doors and replacing the inside with aluminium sheeting. Plexi will replace the glass (makrolon)

Quite a lot can be cut out from lids and doors. To prevent us from cutting ourselves on the sharp edges, we dress the insides of the doors with alu. sheeting.

Hold out for next time, more will come

Seb

I really enjoy and do appreciate your projects (the 3.0 conv. as well). Interesting.

We almost walking in the same shoes. Last autumn we bought an Alfetta as a project car with my friend. :)

In the question of lightening the body, were you thinking about using glass fiber and carbon fiber?

Well, since we´re doing it "budget style" we´ll stick with this for now. A glassfiber hood and trunk lid migth come in the future though.

We like doing the work on our own, so we might try making the hood.

Seb, do you have a source for the fiberglass panels? Someone who sells them ready made for the 75?

Thanks

I'd already resolved myself to getting them from Europe. There aren't enough cars left here to warrant making the molds. If you get some made let me know, we can work something out. I should get back to England some time soon to see family.

I need to do a cold air cowl intake so I supposed I could mold that right in. Opens up a lot of possibilities.

Thanks for the reply.

Peter,

Bob Wright (Middlesborough, England) makes fibreglass panels for the 75. His web site seems to have gone walkabout, but they're advertised on the Classic Connections website at http://www.alfaromeoclassicconnections.com/ . Click the "Panel Price List" link.

EMC Racing (Surrey, England) also sell 75 panels in fibreglass (and in carbon fibre). They don't have a web site, but their supplier, Alpha Composites, has photos here:

Thanks for the links guys.

Those panels are super nice. I bet they could do some serious business here in the US with those GT panels. I'll contact them.

Thanks again.

Now the door panels are all finished. Next is to put plastic (plexi) windows in the doors and rear.

Since the EVO-front is in the making the bumpers come off too. The one in the back will be put back again, we just wantad to see what the wieght of it was. Not much really... 4-5kg´s maybe

´till next time dudes!
