@Micke, you missed a lot.. had a great time.

Forecast a lot of rain, had disconnected the back side anti roll bar to go on the safe side,
Saturday on the way to the ring (~ 16h), thought about turning back and drive home. A lot of water on the German Highway, the toyo's don't like creeks and pools on the road :shock:
But getting closer to the ring, with a nice constant speed of 80~90 km/h the weather was becoming better.

About 18h straight onto the track, track was damp but doable, did three laps with a Greek passenger (George? I'm not that good with names). Had dinner with the group and did sit in at the theory class of Ron.
Next day 8.30u the Greeks were already on the track, still a little damp but very quit on the track and almost no bikers.
After several rounds on my own did 3 laps with JimK on board, the second was a nice one, track was dry, nice pace and not to much traffic.
Did also a passenger lap on board of the V6 (JimK rented together with George), nice driving for an old man :lol:
I was impressed about the very late braking, read braking into (and in) the corners, always thought that it was a no no on the ring.
Funny part, after the ride he politely asks me if he didn't scare me with his driving. @Jim, did I look that pale?

At the end of the day started behind a part of the Greek group driving in convoy behind Ron Simons. When passing the group Ron came after me.
Ooooh man the guy can drive. Showed me in several corners that he could (or did) pass me and let me pas again. Afterwards his comment was that I driving strange lines at some points and that my tires weren't that good. (they are almost 2 year old, so you could call them pretty shot, lines is something i'm working hard on 8) ).

I decided to go home because of the large dark clouds and a track closing (somebody put oil on the track). Went into the small restaurant and time flew by, track open again so decided to do a last lap and go home. Ron Simons went at the same time throught the gate to do a fast demo lap with 2 or 3 passengers in the car. Thought with the extra weight I should be able to keep up with Ron, eeeeeuuuh wrong. After 7 km's Ron was out of sight.
After a secound round went directly to the Autobahn heading home.

ps. I must be getting old, after 80 km's or so the harsh suspension started to annoy me and put the pace back to ~140 km/h.

Note to myself:
Still a lot to learn about lines on the ring, later braking, faster shifting (with the shot gear box :P , will try thicker oil to start with). A record for me, a total of 20 laps this weekend.
Side conclusion the standard V6 (engine wise) isn't much faster as a TS, in the corners a TS would win. A TS is the better choice for me.

For the record
2006 -> 38 laps
2005 -> 3, none with my TS
2004 -> 70 laps
2003 -> 23

BACK FROM TRACK HEAVEN!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
As Maurizio said, conditions dried up after lunch and thats when we went bananas! Man, I had fun with the 3liter car Ron let me have, Pzero Corsas, big brakes and of course RSR suspension! I can't convey the spirit of the place so I won't try, but if YOU guys don't try going there...its your great loss in automotive excitement terms. Forget about all the tracks you've driven, I don't care where but this IS the place to be. I had a great time with Maurizio, the guy knows the Ring and I enjoyed our tech BS session even more; him and Micke are the only two guys from the site I've met so far. All in all it was a great 3 days! Ron was again a wonderful host so we tried to keep him happy by not wrecking any of the cars! :lol: We already started planning for the next trip around Sept/Oct. Oh, the schnitzels in Adenau were great as usual...this time I paid, but I can wait...!(for certain people from Finland and Sweden!) :wink:

I had some stupid mess up with places and thought the ring was ~400 km from home instead of the 151. Went there the first time 5 years ago and was hooked.
I regret all the wasted time, if I started driving there 10 years earlier ...... I would be single, living in a garage, only own a track dedicated car and had to commute from the Nordschleife to work.
Before going home at night would do 6 laps to feed my daily dose :D

And would avoid the place as the pest in the weekend when al those tourists come who can't drive :mrgreen:

AND widened deDion
Interesting. Is it off set to the left? Else it should stick out in the picture. Or then its widened 3 mm.

Micke,

You have a point. It certainly doesn't appear to be widened (just from photos). Maybe it was widened by 10mm but the wheel offset was in the high 40's and negated the widened dedion (maybe Subaru wheels, they're in the 48-50mm range).

My race wheels are Kosei K1 (16 X 7.5 with 30mm offset). Now those stick out! Especially the fronts where I have 10mm spaces (needed to clear calipers).

I don't know guys, Ron said its widened ~20mm, thats all I have. Wide or not, that f&%$#* went around corners!
Micke, you have 1 demerit point now (no-show). You're still way ahead of Barry and Mats though :lol:
When we drove with Maurizio, there was a huge tourist bus touring the track (!!!) and I was trying to make out some of the faces as we flashed by... looking for Barry, Mats... :twisted: :twisted: I guess it was full of senior citizens who at last made it to the Ring! So there's still time guys, don't worry!
