Torsion bars-Interested if I manufactured?-Barry

Post by Barry »

I have done some homework and torsions for our cars can be made..
I have a set of 34mm hollow Autodelta bars as a basis.

Give me a show of hands via the poll as to the viability of this.It would be crazy to make 5 sets here..
What do you guys think seeing as coil overs are also a dime a dozen. :?:
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.

Barry,

Before I respond to the poll, could you tell me the equivalent size of the solid bar to the 34mm hollow? If you are thinking of making various sizes, perhaps a small chart to show equivalents so one could cross match.
I think it would also be useful to have some idea of shipping cost to likely places like the US, Europe, Australia.
Love the idea. Hope you get an economical demand.

What's the ID of the 34 hollow so I can work out the equivalent solid size for Mike ?

What sort of money do you think these will go for ?

One bar only-same specs as to the A/D bar I have.

We are still looking at costs here, hence the poll..

Dan,Will get the id for you on Monday.

To you have price figures or it depends on quantity numbers?

Some more questions :

- Is it lighter than TS OEM bars?
- Is it reasonable to use it on TS? Since it´s much lighter than V6´s?

Guys,The interest is not there..This is not going to be economically viable..
I need to make 50 odd sets(100 bars) for it to make sense..

Im not going to go ahead with this..sorry.

Can you briefly explain to novices what would be the application for these bars and a rough idea of the cost is you did get 50-100 orders so people can decide. For instance is this a mild tightening for a fast road gtv6 or more of a track mod. There are a lot of people on this site who make the odd light modification but mainly enjoy the cars more or less as they are. Would these bars be useful for people like us?

Cheers!

Without being patronizing, I think I know Barry's problem. If he had the time he could have given us a slick promo job with all the lavish advertising hype descriptors of how these bars would add the 8th wonder of the world to your Alfa and we would have known more. Given his work schedule, he's lucky have time to remove a scrubb tick of his his left nut after walking his dogs through the bush !!!! :D

I believe this modification is targetting the competition side of transaxle fans and probably belongs under the racing topic set. That would have given some of the newbies a clue as to what the purpose of the item is. Some additional info to compare against solid bars for people like me who are genuinely interested but can't make a choice for lack of info would have also helped.

However, to move 50 sets of bars for advanced modified Alfas which are heading for racing or ultra street application is maybe a big ask at short notice. Pitty that..

Barry, I think you would loose your shirt on this one. The only market would be the hard core racers who are in classes where they can't use coil overs. That amounts to about 25 people in the U.S.

Greg,yes,your probably correct here..
Ive been harking back to when I had all this stuff in my gtv..It was rather splendid.
A friend came by and wanted an old set of bars I have here..We got chatting and he arranged something with the people that do the Isuzu pickup bars..
BUT,we need volumes for these things.

The bars I wanted to do are based on a 34mm hollow Autodelta set I have..
I have never checked specs or anything like that, but they were tremendous on the road and track..

The other thing is as Mike says..Hell,Im running like a blue ass fly!

Simon,sorry mate..

No,not a slight tightening as you say..This is rather solid stuff more for the track, although I personally enjoy the setup on the street a well..

Hey Barry,
Maybe if you don't decide to produce anything but you do know what is required to do so, maybe you can share what you learn so we can make our owns sets at home.

Lets face it..Torsions are realy for trucks and old Alfa`s..
If I were to do something to my own car?Id fit my coil overs..period!

To make these torsions is a real art..material specs,lh is different to rh,the splines..very special machinery to make these..

I got a preliminary price today..Im definitly NOT making these..!!
They have to stop OE production to fit "mine" in and believe me when I say Id pay through my butt for this privelage!
