That's the "Loaded" CSL, they try to beat the production car lap record at Nürburgring. It now has a pure racing body kit with a huge wing. Replaced the Bilstein custom coil-over kit (it has it's own part# at Bilstein) with a KW one because they couldn't get the Bilsteins to work properly.

They will be running extensive testing on the NS this weekend if someone happens to be there.

MJR that is pretty much what I had in mind. :D With the motor Barry built for me I am already daydreaming of Ferrari 360 Modena throtle bodies and the like... Only one major snag...money.

My cousin is into his BMW's big time, currently has an X5,for the SO,and a 330i.He is busy weighing up his options on getting an E46 M3 second hand as he just went into a new business venture.

The two of us have been car obsessed since we could stand.

Fernando, I was watching that famous two hour race of the gtv 3.0l and the BMW's 535 from 1983 and thought how sad it is that Alfa was so far ahead than BMW's then and now BMW's are technically far superior in every aspect. If only Alfa could have kept up with developement. Anyway I would far rather have a stylish 166 than an m3 any day. Guess its a sign of individuality and also the stigma of owning an m3(chop factor).

Kevin let me know if you can make me a copy of the footage of 2 Hour Group 1 race ? :D I was there that year as a kid and got to sit in the 'works' BMW team pits throughout the race. 8)

True Alfa floundered after the 80's and the FIAT takeover saved them, but didn't exactly bring about much in the way of technical inovation.

Kevin thanks for yesterday, just sorry about the hold up that forced me to miss the morning session at Zwarties.Got some nice lapping in the afternoon though.Learn't two things, road tyres cannot match a good track day tyre for love nor money, although it's fun having the car oversteering and drifting in corners. :D Secondly the standard Brembo's take a hammering with this new motor. It's frustrating as all hell having to brake earlier than another car and still struggle to get the car to slow down enough.. Anyway I don't think that's going to be an issue for much longer... :D

Saw one poor chap blow the headgasket on his new 350Z going down the back straight.ECU shut the motor off straight away and he had to be towed back to the pits.Car lost most of it's coolant and had a rather serious amount of oil leaking onto the pit floor. Felt really bad for the poor bloke.

Oh yes,no Lexus's were to be seen once again....

Those two Lumina's did look good out on track Mr B.Just for the enlightment of the others, there was a black Chev/Holden Lumina/Monaro SS with an obviously aftermarket exhaust that sounded very good.Heavy bass American style V8 warble. :D Then a new one that's just been launched in SA.Very impressive they were too. It's a rather underated car I reckon.

Unfortunatly I didn't go out at the same time as them Barry.Hopefully next time around once the brakes are done...

A while back I was taken for a drive in a 6 litre Lumina and down the one road where I live the bloke gave it full stick from one traffic light to the next and hit just under 150 km/h in second gear at red line. Anyway I had the chance this Satruday to give it a blast between these self same robots, same rolling start as the Lumina, and was able to hit over 6000rpms in 4th gear within the same distance, :D
So I reckoned to Barry a Lumina would have a not to easy time staying with his 3.6 litre motor.

Fernando, I gave B a copy of the two hour 1983 two race (debut of the GTV3.0L). You missed a good morning session. managed to put in twenty laps. I had the opposite problem to you ie had great brakes and handling but the standard 2.5 12v made me work very hard in the bends to stay with the m3's(also on semi slicks) which I did. They must have pulled 200m on me on the straights but by the end of the lap I was all over them in the bowl section. I believe if the m3's had the same brake pads I was running it would have been a different story.

Kev,

Are we talking about E30 M3s? Sounds like it being a vintage group and all. Yikes 116 cars in vintage land, we're getting old....

In the mean time I'm going to start posting pics of my 3.0 24V. This bugger seems to have good compression as even when cold it is difficult to turn it over. I hope it's not due to a trapped chipmunk in there. Too bad I don't have the budget for a 3.6L like Fernando, would like to have one of those.

Its really frustrating for us, Alfa fans, to see that Nissan has the RWD 350Z, BMW the 335i and 135i, Ford the oldschool Stang, Chevy will have the 2008 Camaro soon. And Alfa instead of building a new oldschool RWD GTV with 50/50 weight distribution are selling us cars that mechanicaly speaking are the same as Renaults, Peugeots, Fiats, VWs, etc.
I`m an Alfa fan and there are no post-116 GTVs Alfas to buy. Thats why in 2004 I bought a second hand 1996 M3 3.2. I always hated BMWs drivers, all my life they have been my rivals on the street. I have good memories chasing 193hp 328s with my mildly modified 1984 euro GTV6 but today with the 260hp 330s and 300hp 335s cant keep up with them. Couldnt find a replacement in Alfa for my GTV6 so I had to buy a BMW as they are RWD and 50/50 weight distribution. I didnt sold the GTV6 but know its no longer my performance car, that place is for the M3 now, today the Alfa is my classic car for classic car races and events.

It woul be really nice if FIAT decided to have a sportcar between the Brera and the Maserati Gransport or the upcoming Granturismo. That car could be a smaller Maserati or a exclusive Alfa. If its an Alfa it could share the same platform with the Gransport but with a shorter wheel base. That platform is not that exclusive since its used in the Gransport, Quattroporte, 612 Scaglieti and 599 GTB. And the engine should have between 300 and 350hp, so it could be a 3.5 V6 or a 3.5 V8 developed from the 4.0 Maserati/Ferrari motor. And the body ofcourse should be done entirely by Giugiaro. The nose could be similar to the Brera but the tail must be fastback not like the Brera that looks like a hatchback.
That is my dream of a future GTV.

Hear hear Lucass.Your right on the money there.Just wish someone at FIAT/Alfa would catch a wake up and start producing a decent GTV replacement in the mold of the current M3/Nissan 350Z. :(
