Post by mjr »

:D not a gtv6 I know, but what an excellent example of pure italian loviathan. All v6's should sound like this!

 is it me or has that footage been slightly breathed upon up? even f1 dont go like that! I would love to know the ins and outs of those Ti engines though. Weren't they based on the 164 24valve design, but 2.5 instead of 3 litre? the 155 production 2.5 at that early point was only 12 valve wasnt it?

eh, no. The TI engine was a completely new engine. 2.5l 24v with 14000rpm as a limit and 375Hp at 10500 IIRC.

Mats correct me if I am wrong here, but I recall Alfa also having the heads completely redesigned by Dallara at one stage, when they were struggling to eke out more horsepower during the 94 season ?

Er,Barry how much would one of these cost?

Seriously though that sound gives me goosebumps. :D

hmm, annoying, just spent about an hour trawling around the net for info about the V6 in the Ti. theres a surprising amount of information about various 2006 F1 engines!, including, bores, strokes, valve materials etc, and yet absolutely nothing about this Ti V6. maybe its a good job, otherwise some crazy doode surely would squeeze a Ti engine into a GTV at some point. hey, maybe Jim G could cover it in his v6 book,

There is (was?) a norwegian guy who put a V6 TI in a 75. Guess he found that critical speed for the propshaft pretty fast... :?

As Mats said, the Ti v6 was an engine built compepetely from scratch. AFAIR they were 90 degree v6 unlike the rest of the family. Totally different engines. I guess I had a nice article on that somewhere in my pc, must look for it.
But as far as Italian monsters are concerned...
Not a gtv6, bah not even an alfa, but that is absolutely killer sound :
