I shipped a car from Texas to Michigan and it was 700$
Your are probably looking at the same amount or a little more.
The way it works is you deal with a shipping broker or a private company. Private company more expensive but can do better with dates. Brokers use a central system. You tell them you want a car shipped and they post it to a board. Drivers from many companies check this board and select something that pays well and is convenient for them.
So say you pay 700$. you are not as valuable as a customer who pays 1000$ for the same location/trip...so you might have to wait longer.
Also, if you pay more, there is never a guarantee that your car will be picked up sooner.
Also, covered carriers carry fewer cars so cost is higher for the same trip.
also, forget any rush shipping on the holidays and make sure you are getting door to door shipping (or as close as possible) not central dock to central dock.
Brokers fees are generally about 150 and the rest goes to the carrier. You should not have to pay until your vehicle is loaded (broker fee)and the rest when it is delivered(carrier fee). And they (THE CARRIER)should be fully insured/bonded.
