I went to a Alfa club gathering last night at a alfa workshop here in Melbourne. I met Venables from this forum who was there, well he actually came and introduced himself, nice of you Scott!
There were some nice cars there, one in particular was a very modfied 75 twin spark with 460HP at the wheels, 25psi, and it hasnt been properly tuned yet, will have over 500hp at the wheels easily...yes i took a quick video, but i filmed it upside down, so wont be uploading it.

I know your all saying, no way can it take that power, but i took pics of the de dion rear which will be going in. Nothing was standard of course, it came complete with Holinger straight cut gears.

Hey Tera...yeah i can find out more about it, maybe someone else who was there that night may be able to chime in with some info about it. All i know is that no expense has been spared with this car, all forged internals, Motec inj. Tera he said its how you drive it, amazingly the rear end held together on its dyno run.

But i know standard rear end will take 350hp, but anyway its un-registered and really only for the race track.

do you know any specs of the engine, CR, valve sizes, monosleeve?
corect me if wrong but wouldnt the plenum need to be upgraded for those hp levels? and the distributers replaced with wasted spark or individual coil packs?

Maybe I was a bit unclear, post = post-production. Use some editing software to rotate it, like you would use Photoshop to rotate images.
What kind of phone do you have?

The distributors are what puzzles me the most...

i would think they are greatly inferior to anything modern... and on such engine that demands absolute precession in timing and spark strength...

oh well...

i guess there are no hard launches or clutch dippings with original drive train and that sort of power... not really fun

Have you ever seen a Top Fuel engine with coilpacks or Coil On Plug?

I'm going for a dizzy setup myself, it won't have anything to do with timing though only distributing. Spark energy won't be a problem either with a MSD 6A + MSD Blaster coil.

u forgot that electronic ignition timing is prohibited in top fuel...

Like they do in ProMod you mean? Distributors too, but with digital control.
My point is that just because the engine has distributors doesn't mean the engine is a useless lump of s-t that would have 200Hp more if only it had coil-on-plug...
Are there really any COP-coils or coilpacks that can match a MSD amplifier + MSD coil?

Yeah Brad believe it or not, those intake runners and plenum are standard. CR is 7:8. Engine is totally worked, full forged internals, etc.

Dont have much more info i'm afraid.

I'll try and find out more about this car. Will keep track of it when it eventually hits the track with that new rear end in it. Hmm holinger gearbox...

Top fuelers may run distributors due to the rules. However they can break those huge tires loose at 300mph, so I don't think the distributors are holding them back anyway. Well set up distributors actually work really well, not quite as good as crank fire, but darn good.

On another note, are we sure the car in this post has that much power? If so, how long has the transaxle held up. It may very well have that, much, it's certainly possible, and it's been done before, but I haven't seen that much with a transaxle, straight cut gears or not.
