Here are some pics of my finished adapterplates for the 166 calipers. They fit on an unmodified spindle. Just the caliper needs a little grinding to clear the ears of the spindle.

This setup uses 2003+ 156 GTA 330x32mm discs with widened (4mm) 166 v6 calipers. Discs have the center hole enlarged and wheelstuds fitted, no spacer is used between disc and hub.

Nice job mate. So the next question is, what size wheels does the install require to complete the picture.?

Just a little comment ( and we have had this discussion sort of before). Doing front upgrades without revising the rears is a big mistake as the rear brakes do a lot more work than people give them credit for because of the weight distribution. The GTV does not have ABS and so the old school testing applies.

17" is probably needed, but maybe some 16" will also fit. I've got a 17" set lying around so that'll go on.

That big wheel also leaves room for the upside-down balljoint.

For the rear i'm still looking. Over here there ar quite a few guys who fit the original vented front brakes in the rear wheels. But i think that's to big, caliper-pistonsize-wise.

I'm looking for a nice disc to use in the wheel that goes over the standard hub and needs minimal altering to be used. Vented or non-vented is not really important for me, either will work on my car ( will be a lightweight car, no interior and a lot of metalcutting for instance..). For rear calipers i'm probably going to use some cheap original rearcaliper of a 166 or something. That matches the original system and should work quite good. Offcourse there will be a manual pressure controlvalve in the car also, as well as the hydraulic handbrake ( so much easier as using a cable.. ).

Weight distribution? front mounted gearbox in this GTV...

I've started mine conversion too:

300mm discs - so I can fit all kinds of 15' wheels
Ginded used hubs (ar164 or 156) to support normal screws - finally I will get rid of short ones...

The GTA caliper is a fair bit smaller. the holes on the 166 caliper are wider apart.

Thanks, I checked the pics again and they are very different.
Also, checked the post and haven't found any non-destructive adaptation of the 1st gen 156GTA brakes.
Nobody has tried to build the adaptor plates? I checked the stuff a couples day ago and I think it can be done.

You can only fit the old compomotive 15" wheels on 300mm discs . Its the recess in most 15"rims that catches the caliper and some 16" will also catch depending on it's casting. To make it fit on 15" you need to bring hub back 10 mm , add 10mm spacer and shave 2mm off side of stub near bottom baljoint.

I have a set of AZEV 16x7.5" wheels, so I guess there's room for the 305mm discs and GTA calipers.
Nobody could fit them without cutting/welding the hub's ears (don't know if that's the right name for it :-S)?

Jose_76: I'm doing 300mm conversion and I have Azev 16x7.5' too (ET:30)... I'll inform you about fitting. Regarding "ears" - yes, you'll have to cut them. Just yesterday tried to fit them without cutting, but no way - same thing for 305mm.
