Nah, it's red with some sun bleached streaks in it after two weeks in Italy.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
If you go the south, do you usually take a ferry to NL or BE or do you just take a ferry from Goth to Denmark and then drive all the way?
Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Bridge Malmö - Köbenhavn (Copenhagen) and ferry Rödby - Puttgarden then drive the whole way. From memory: A1-A7-A352-A2-A1-A31-B257...

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
ok, back to the GTV...
Got the pipes back on Saturday, didn't look like they had warped much actually. Very big sigh of relief!
Slight color change due to the heat and it will turn a bit darker after use, I think it's a really cool feature with stainless and it looks great.
Now I just have to tack the pieces together and have it welded up.
Managed to set the cam timing during the weekend, finally. Not sure why it took me this long but now it's done. Pulled the lobes apart just a smidge to promote "low end" response and torque, basically move the VE-max lower. No need to optimize everything for 6500rpm when I have to have the wastegate open...
ECU is fitted, engine harness is starting to find it's way into the car and the main electrical harness is coming together. I'm sure looking forward to be able to check off that part of the todo-list.

Nice one Mats. Good to hear you are on the downhill run with project. Always a great buzz when it all finally comes together.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Yeah it's all downhill from here...
Seriously, it feels great to put stuff onto the car and feel like it's actually is going to stay there.
There are still a lot of open questions but now htat some of the bigger things are done I think they will be done quite fast, the momentum is there.

Some more pics from tonight:
Try not to judge my welding of the collector too harshly, first time on a TIG in about 18 years...
It's not finished, I just tacked it together for a friend to finish weld it.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Are long intake tubes and big plenum relevant for boost? Wouldn't less volume be better for response?

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Well, first of all the length is probably less then a pair of Webers without any trumpets mounted so it's not that "bad" and second; the runners are tapered from right where I cut them off. Shortening them would be quite a lot of work. The inner intake is shortened about 80mm...
The volume in the plenum could be a lot smaller if you know what you are doing. Since I have no idea what I'm doing I went with a larger volume to not have balancing issues between the cylinders.

This is the actual simulation of what's happening in my plenum. It has the correct cams and somewhat correct inlet tract, flow numbers are taken from Jims book. Head is done to that spec.

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Great pics , your build and design is inspiring a fellow racer here . Do you think you will be up and running before new year ?
Are you gonna put a turbo " blanket" on or have you made plans to allow heat to draw it self out ?

Re: Mats Strandberg (SWE)
Thanks Kev!
Stranger things have happened but I guess time will tell. I wouldn't put money on it...
You do realize that New Year means about a foot of snow and -10*C here right? Not really a deadline usually.
Would be nice to have the engine started by then though, in the car.
Right now I'm pretty much shut down because of a really bad back. It does this thing where it just goes to hell now and then. Not good, need to do some weight training.

Thanks Ben!
I bet it's going to be better and better when all the parts are on, lots and lots of really nice "dressing" in boxes in the garage.
Also, the plenum will be brushed when it's finished, vacuum/boost ports, MAT bung and the mounts for the strut on the bottom needs to be added.
Fuel rail needs to be made and the coolant inlet needs to be designed and fabricated. Oil return from turbo, alternator bracket and so on...
Lots of stuff to be done but finally it is stuff that is fun to do!
