Introduce myself, Alfa 75 Racer from Austria

Post by Alfa 75 Racer »

A very nice HELLO from Austria !

My name is Wolfgang, I´m 47 years young and I have a very big virus inside my heart, ... it´s called ALFA ROMEO !!!

I want to introduce here my Racecar, it´s an Alfa Romeo 75 3,0 V6 Gr. A and myself.

Since many years now I´m racing with Alfa Romeo cars, starting in 2004 with an Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 (was an official ENGSTLER car), but this car was never driving without technical problems (faults of Engstler).

In 2010 I stopped racing, sold the car because we have got our sweet daughter PIA and in November 2011 after a lot of discussions with my wife I decided to buy the current Alfa Romeo 75 3,0 V6 Gr. A race car. I´ve bought it in not very good condition so I had to restore the complete car technical and optical.

Since April 2012 I´m racing that car in the Austrian HISTO-CUP in the class Young-Timer gr. A and it make a lot of fun. I have made all modifications almost by myself and try to find as many solutions of modificatios as I can.

Engine has approx. 250 Horse Power with steel rods and performance pistons, balanced crank shaft and colombo bariani cams race max.

Front suspension is still running on torsion bar springs with RSR torsion bar 30mm, sachs shocks and big ALCON brakes 330mmx32 with 4 pot calipers.

Wheels are the old style MAGNESIUM BBS 8,5 J X 16 "as used in the DTM.

Rear Suspension is completely different as original installed are Shock and Springs in one unit, adjustable in height and force, torsion bar is also from RSR, all with unibal, also the watt linkage.

Gearbox and Diff is running with an external cooler and pump.

Gear linkage and lever is self made and goes in the car directly through the floor onto the gearbox.

Rear Axle is bent for toe camber.

Rear brakes are vented like the SZ.

So Guys that´s it for now !

Many greetings from Austria
Wolfgang

A very nice Good Morning from Austria !

Thank you all for those positive commands about my big "Love", my 75 3,0 V6 Race Car.

Next race will be on coming weekend on the "Slovakia-Ring" near Bratislawa.

And next race in Austria wll be on 6th and 7th of September on the "Salzburg-Ring" where also WTCC and many years ago also DTM was driving.

Our last race this year will be in MONZA on 27th - 29th of September but this year I woun´t start there because of business work.

For the near future (depending on budget) I´m going to build up a 24V race engine. Right now I´ve bought 2pcs. 24V engines out of an Alfa 164 QV (231 HP) and another out of an Alfa 164 24V Super (211 HP) to have enough spares.

I´m not sure if I will go with 6 pcs. throttle bodies (AH-Motorsport) or if I will make a special plenum with 1 pc. throttle body in the middle.

I´ve also a question about hydraulic tapets, ... do anyone know how much RPM´s they are good for with a race cam?

I know that another problem will be valve clearance because race cams do have mostly a smaller one than original.

Did anybody make a conversion to fixed tapets with spacers like you can get also at AH-Motorsport ?

My plan is to go up with RPM´s to about 8.000 - max. 8.500.

I want to go for approx. 300-320 HP.

I´m also working (with a good friend of mine) on a Carbon Prop Shaft, ... prototype is running in an Alfa GTV6 and works great. The driver said that you can´t compare that with the old Prop Shaft, ... engine revs up like a motorcycle with Carbon Prop Shaft and the car was quicker 1,2 seconds on the same track!!!

I´ve also changed all side windows and rear window, ... now made of Macrolon because old windows were made of Plexiglas and I´ve lost one side window last race.

O.K. guys that´s it for now I´ve go back to work !

Many many greetings from Austria
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang.

a great looking race car you have there. Would love to join some historical races however with more stock like car. My plan is to buy a GTV6 and use it as a street car most of the time.

Is there a category for such "low profile" tuned cars?

How do you like the Slovakia Ring? Many people say it is build tather for very fast cars that can advantage from a wide road and long streights.

Ciao YetyGTA !

Sorry for my delay in answering, ... but now here my command.

I love the Slovakia Ring it´s a really beautiful race track from my point of view and not only for power Monsters, ... there are some sectors where you need the foot down to the floor.

Last Saison I was on the podium in both single races and also in the 1 hour team race.

But ... you must have a very strong engine to drive on the really top so that was the raison why I´ve opened a new thread where I describe a conversation to a 166 3,0 24V seriouse race engine with a lot more power. There must be a "3" at the beginning of the power output.

Many greetings from Austria
Wolfgang
