Ok guys I'm going to hijack my own thread.What I have done is I removed the E-ZL controller and opened it up.I sprayed contact cleaner on the board and carefully checked for bad solder joints - there were none.(man this is a complicated little devil with lots of weird components) I re-assembled and installed.I've been checking my timing regularly for about two weeks and so far no re-occurance of the mysterious advance.Time will tell.

By the way, if you change the crystal in that box, you can alter the advance curve, and up the rev limit.
